Tolmie Peak is a 5,940 ft peak in the Mount Rainier area. The peak is situated 2 miles northwest of Mowich Lake and is very popular among hikers.
Tolmie Peak was named after William Fraser Tolmie, who made the first recorded exploration of the Mount Rainier area.
Tolmie Peak Trail begins at Mowich Lake and runs through the forest to the Wonderland-Tolmie Peak Trail Junction. Take the Tolmie Peak Trail and proceed to Eunice Lake.

Enjoy lupine, partridge foot, paintbrush and lewisia blooms. Minimize your impact on these beautiful meadows, stay on the path. Our team of hikers enjoyed the most beautiful views of the flowers along the way and magnificents views of Eurice Lake.
Be prepared for the last mile from Eurice Lake to Tolmie Peak, it is steep, but the views there are worth taking efforts. The view of Mount Rainier from Tolmie Peak Lookout is breathtaking. On a clear day hikers enjoy the views not only of Mount Rainier, but also Mt. Howard, Mount Baker, Glacier Peak and Mt. St. Helens.

While you are on top of the summit, look for an old fire lookout cabin that still stands there. High technologies, computers and satellites have replaced these lookout stations, but there are volunteers who still can be found at the cabins. If you are lucky and you see a volunteer, you have a great opportunity to learn about the old historic place.
From Puyallup
Drive 13 miles east on State Route 410 to Buckley. Turn right onto SR 165 and continue through Carbonado. Just beyond the Carbon River Gorge bridge, turn right onto Mowich Lake Road. Follow the road to its end; the trailhead is at the far end of the Mowich Lake Campground.
